About Windham Surgical
The Windham Surgical Group has been providing health care for the Windham community since Eddie Ottenheimer returned from World War II in 1945. Dr. Ottenheimer was a local physician who served with the Yale University Medical Unit in the Pacific War. There he met Jim Major (also a Yale graduate) and together they formed the Windham Surgical Group.
At that time these general surgeons were performing all aspects of surgery, including orthopedic, chest, ENT and gynecologic surgery! Ray Bopp, Gerald Lawrence, and Greg Peterson joined the WSG in the late '60s, each adding further types of specialty care for the Windham community. Ted Collins joined in 1976 and Doug Griswold came on board in 1980.
The "founding fathers" Ottenheimer and Major retired in 1962 and 1979 respectively.
Dr. Herb Ridyard, now senior partner, joing the Windham Surgical Group in 1984. Dr. David Kloss, chief of General Surgery at Windham Community Memorial Hospital, joined the practice in 1994. Dr. Leszek Kolodziejczak came to WSG in 1996. Each of our physicians is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery, having passed rigorous written and oral examinations. Every year each completes many hours of continuing professional education. Our surgical group is active with the American Medical Association, the American College of Surgeons, the Connecticut State Medical Society and the Society of American Gastrointestinal Surgeons (SAGES). |
